KITLV Office in Jakarta

With its office located in Jakarta, KITLV expresses the great importance that Indonesia holds for it. Activities at KITLV-Jakarta fall into the three operational categories: the collections, publications and research. Many thousands of books, journals and magazines, as well as many kilometres’ worth of microfilms of dailies and grey literature are acquired, catalogued and sent to the KITLV library in Leiden. Moreover, several television programmes are recorded on DVD daily for the collections in Leiden.

KITLV-Jakarta carries out its publication programme for academic manuscripts together with Indonesian publishers. The greater part of these publications consists of translations, though there is certainly room for new works such as the book on contemporary Indonesian photography Indonesian Dreams which was jointly published by KITLV-Jakarta and Yayasan Obor Indonesia.
When possible, ‘Jakarta’ facilitates Leiden research programmes running in Indonesia, and the Indonesian branch of KITLV acts as a local representative of KNAW.  It is in its role as a KNAW representative that KITLV-Jakarta has responsibility for the Academy Professorship Indonesia programmes.
