About the Thesaurus

A help to get relevant search results
The catalogues of the KITLV (book, periodicals and articles collections; manuscript and audio-visual collections and collections of photographs and prints) may be searched with keywords derived from the KITLV Thesaurus. These keywords are in English.
The KITLV Thesaurus is a list of specially selected words relevant to the subject matter of the collections mentioned above.

The main body of the KITLV Thesaurus consists of a limited number of
keywords (about 9,000) relating to the social sciences and humanities and, of course, to the geographical areas with which the KITLV is concerned i.e. the countries of Southeast Asia and the Caribbean.
