About KITLV Press

KITLV Press is the publishing department of the KITLV/Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies, and is the publisher of the longest-running anthropological and linguistic journal in the world (since 1851), Bijdragen tot de Taal-, Land- en Volkenkunde (BKI) / Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences of Southeast Asia and Oceania.

KITLV Press is a not-for-profit academic publisher. We publish about 20 books annually, and three journals. Apart from the BKI, these journals are the New West Indian Guide / Nieuwe West-Indische Gids (NWIG) and Oso, Tijdschrift voor Surinamistiek en het Caraïbisch gebied. Most of our publications are in English.

KITLV Press stands for high-quality books prepared with meticulous editorial care and expertise. Publications are moderately priced to be affordable for the entire scholarly community, individual buyers as well as institutions and libraries. Agents in the USA, Indonesia, Australia and Singapore ensure efficient distribution.

KITLV Press specializes in scholarly monographs and other books on the anthropology, art, economics, history, linguistics and literature of Southeast Asia, with special emphasis on Indonesia, and the Caribbean.
As one of the founding members of APSEA (Academic Publishers on Southeast Asia), KITLV Press is proud to be part of a new, worldwide academic publishing network. With members on three continents, the collective APSEA is able to produce more co-publications and offer better worldwide distribution and more extensive marketing and promotion.

KITLV Press welcomes submissions from prospective authors. Please see our instructions and guidelines for authors of monographs, and guidelines for submitting articles to the editors of our journals.
