Aguasvivas Hernandez, MA Marianny
Research assistant

Marianny Aguasvivas studied Art History, Archaeology and Anthropology for her BA at University of East Anglia, and Caribbean Archaeology and Heritage and Museum studies for her RMA at Leiden University. Coming from the Dominican Republic, her RMA thesis focused on the misrepresentation of African legacy in Dominican museums. Her main research interests are decolonisation, untold stories, multi-vocality and community engagement. She is currently working at KITLV as a research assistant in the CaribTRAILS project. Some of her tasks include helping with the preparation of a Spanish publication with a compilation of the project’s research papers, as well as collaborating with the Caribbean diaspora in the Netherlands for the creation and development of heritage initiatives.

Kraaijenoord, MA Myrthe
Research assistant

Myrthe Kraaijenoord is a research assistant for the project ‘Het Nederlands koloniale slavernijverleden en zijn doorwerkingen’,  which aims to create a field exploration of the state of research into Dutch slave history and the effects it has had on modern society. She is involved with research work for the project and has an active part in the upkeeping of the website and newsletter. Additionally, she will assist with some editorial work. She has studied at the University Leiden, finishing a Research Master in Colonial and Global History. In the past she has written for Things That Talk, a website exploring objects and their stories, where she has posted stories on the connection between faith and healing and the experiences of people with a disability at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thielen, MA Eva

Eva Thielen works as an editor for a project on the Dutch history of slavery commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. KITLV is working toward a publication on the current state of research on the national colonial/slavery past and its repercussions. Eva previously worked as an editor for Boom Uitgevers, Brill’s Exchange: Journal of Contemporary Christianities in Context and for Utrecht University. For her master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies at Leiden University, she researched the impact of oil wealth in contemporary Saudi literature from a petrointersectional lens.
