Aart Broek

Aart_broek_klein

Aart G. Broek (Netherlands, 1954) specialised in communication studies, sociology and, more recently, in criminology, with special reference to the Caribbean. He obtained a PhD at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, with a thesis on the Papiamentu (literary) propaganda of the roman catholic mission in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao in the first half of the 20th century. He lived in Curaçao from 1981 – 2001. On the island and since his return in the Netherlands he has worked as an independent scholar, interim manager and consultant.


He has published extensively on ( Dutch) Caribbean social, educational, cultural and political matters. He is the author of a substantial number of essays, scholarly articles, policy reports, curricula and books.
 
He is a part-time researcher at the KITLV, particularly involved – together with dr. Ellen Klinkers – in a two-year research project that will result in a historiography of the police in the (former) Dutch Caribbean, viz. the Dutch Antilles, Aruba and Suriname.
