Book Series

Since 1938, the vast majority of our books (over 250 volumes) have appeared in the Verhandelingen Series (VKI), which includes books on all the subjects in which the KITLV specializes. Other KITLV Press series are: the Caribbean Series (CS), the Bibliotheca Indonesica (BI) and the Boekerij ‘Oost en West’ (BOW).

The Caribbean Series consists of studies on the area’s history, art history, politics, anthropology, sociology, languages and linguistics. The series Bibliotheca Indonesica presents primary sources that have been translated and annotated in English. The Boekerij ‘Oost and West’ started in 2003 as an avenue for the publication of lavishly illustrated Dutch-language books intended for a more general audience of readers.

Other publications include various dictionaries of Indonesian languages. Occasionally the Press co-publishes books with other well-known publishers that are active in the same subject areas. Most of these our now our APSEA partners.

New series

To maintain our service to the needs of specialized researchers and graduate students, KITLV Press is developing new subseries within the Verhandelingen Series. Two new subseries have recently been approved by our editorial board.
