Born in the Netherlands and raised in the Caribbean region of the Kingdom, Arion has obtained his MSc. in Cultural Anthropology and Non-Western Sociology in 2011, at the University of Amsterdam. The fieldwork informing his Master thesis took place on the island of Curaçao, in the period shortly after the dismantlement of the Netherlands Antilles, on October 10, 2010. His thesis formed a descriptive analysis of the social constructions of Curaçaoness as a matter of cultural identity, within the parameters set by hegemonic ideas of the Curaçaoan nation.
In extension of the context prompted by the constitutional changes of 10/10/10, Arion started his professional career on the island of St. Maarten, where he was employed as policy advisor at the government department of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations. In that capacity, working on the National Development Plan Project, his work focused on sustainable development determined by the ideals of the country’s community, based on an extensive process of national dialogues.
