Network ‘Understanding Insurgencies’ receives grant

The research network Understanding Insurgencies: Resonances from the Colonial Past, in which KITLV participates with six other research institutes in Britain, France and Canada, was awarded a network grant from the Leverhulme Trust. The grant provides support for the organization of seven workshops and one conference at the various partner institutions.

Apart from KITLV, the partner institutions in the network are University of Exeter, University of Oxford, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris, University of Warwick, University of Glasgow, and Université du Québec in Montreal. The output from the workshops and conference will be at least two special issues and one edited volume.

The workshops and conference in the Understanding Insurgencies network aim to compare various aspects of anti-colonial insurgencies at the end of empire, the reactions of the respective colonial powers, and the longer-term roots and consequences of these insurgencies. At KITLV, the network activity will be coordinated by Bart Luttikhuis as part of the research project Dutch Military Operations in Indonesia, 1945-1950
