‘Observations on Indonesia’s changing democracy’

An article in the Jakarta Post on KITLV’s research project ‘From Clients to Citizens? Emerging Citizenship in Democratising Indonesia‘, coordinated by Gerry van Klinken and Ward Berenschot: ‘Observations on Indonesia’s changing democracy‘.

The project tries to capture Indonesia’s changing democracy with seven sub-studies: citizenship, birth rights, village leadership, land rights and conflicts, Islam and social media. The project is a collaboration between KITLV, Gadjah Mada University, the University of Amsterdam and Leiden University and was initiated by Henk Schulte Nordholt (KITLV/Leiden University) and funded by The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Indonesian Culture and Education Ministry.
