Short interview with KITLV researcher David Kloos on female islamic leadership in Indonesia in the ‘Mare’, the weekly Leiden University magazine (only in Dutch). Kloos is a postdoctoral researcher specializing in the history and anthropology of Islam in Southeast Asia.
His main research project, ‘Female Islamic leadership in Southeast Asia,’ explores the development and the social and political impact of different forms of female religious authority in Malaysia and Indonesia from the nineteenth century until the present.
