New publication: ‘Citizenship in Asian History’

In June last year KITLV hosted a symposium on Citizenship in Precolonial Asia. This has now led to a special edition of the Journal of Citizenship Studies (vol. 23, nr. 3, 2019). Retitled Citizenship in Asian History, the edition was edited by Paul Bijl and Gerry van Klinken (KITLV).

The introductory essay “introduces a special issue of Citizenship Studies in which historians of East, South and Southeast Asia continue the project of globalizing citizenship by analyzing practices and conceptions of citizenship in pre-colonial China, India and Indonesia”.

Four of the six articles in it are available via Open Access. Read more.
