Indomania is an ‘Indisch’ festival with debates, arts and music performances, film screenings and more. It will feature a screening of a documentary film about Poncke Princen, a colonial soldier who deserted in 1948, joined the pro-independence guerrillas in the Dutch Indies and remained in Indonesia after the independence; after which KITLV researcher Ward Berenschot will interview the son of Princen. Thereafter Fridus Steijlen will have a skype Q&A with Joshua Oppenheimer, director of ‘The act of killing’ and ‘The look of silence,’  and moderate a discussion on ‘Democratization in Indonesia and the role of the Netherlands’  with Professor Saskia Wieringa of the University of Amsterdam,  Nursyahbani Katjasungkan, founder of  the Women’s Association for Justice in Indonesia, Leonard Retel Helmich, filmmaker, and Ward Berenschot, researcher at KITLV.
