Inward Outward Symposium | Witnessing/Care & the Archive

March 16 - March 17

The third edition of Inward Outward will take place March 16 & 17, 2023 at Framer Framed (Amsterdam) as a series of presentations and conversations, and a workshop.

The symposium will focus on Witnessing/Care & the Archive, with the terms “witnessing” and “care” articulated in tandem. We mobilise Witnessing/Care together here, as complementary practices, calling to each other as tools to move through the archive, but that may also be wielded in tension. These two words are deployed as verbs to highlight a form of implication, a refusal to conceive of archival work as a passive performance.

In 2023 further details will be shared and registration will open.

Meanwhile you can get a taste of the publication from the previous symposium edition Emotion in the Archive (2021) with texts from Amal Alhaag, Teresa Cisneros, Stevie Nolten, Wigbertson Julian Isenia, Eliza Steinbock, Mary Huelsbeck, Cécile Accilien, Ariella Aïsha Azoulay, Carine Zaayman, Daniela Agostinho, Imara Limon, Inez van der Scheer, Mirjam Linschooten, Sameer Farooq and Jue Yang discussing the status of moving images and sound archives as they intertwine with questions of coloniality, identity and race. You can read the publication online on our website or download the PDF here.
