Klinkers, Dr. Ellen

Ellen Klinkers is researcher at the KITLV for the project ‘The Dutch Armed Forces in Suriname, 1940-1975’. This project explores the presence and aims of the Dutch troops in the context of decolonization, and is conducted in cooperation with the Netherlands Institute of Military History (NIMH).

Ellen Klinkers received her Ph.D. in History from Leiden University in 1997 based on a study of the abolition of slavery in Suriname. She worked at the Institute of Netherlands History in the Hague (Huygens ING) on the research program ‘Dutch Development Cooperation 1945-1977’. As a researcher at the KITLV, Ellen wrote a study about the history of the colonial police in Suriname, 1863-1975. Ellen is also review editor of OSO: Tijdschrift voor Surinamistiek en het Caribische gebied.
