On 27 May 2025 KITLV welcomed a delegation from the Silpakorn University, Thailand. The visit marked a significant step towards exploring KITLV's research engagement in Southeast Asia. Discussions during the meeting centered on potential collaborations concerning critical issues in the region.

On 12 May the kick-off of the collaboration between the KITLV and the Kadaster of St. Maarten took place. In January 2025 KITLV director Diana Suhardiman and senior researcher Francio Guadeloupe met with Kadaster director Benjamin Ortega, which led to establishing a partnership to enhance the conservation and management of the island’s historical documents.

KITLV guest researcher Rosa de Jong tells in this article about her project to digitize birth records, land sales and correspondence of Jewish refugees who fled the horrors of World War II to the Caribbean, including Suriname. A team in Suriname digitized 100,000 documents to preserve Jewish history in the Caribbean.

UNESCO has recognized a large collection of handwritten letters and the archive of Raden Ajeng Kartini (1879-1904) as documentary world heritage. Kartini, an Indonesian women's rights advocate, opposed gender inequality in feudal Javanese society, including forced marriages, polygamy and lack of education for women.
