Lana Renfrum is a junior researcher at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV). She holds a BA in Art History from Radboud University and an MA in Museum Studies from the University of Amsterdam. 

Her research examines the afterlives of colonialism and slavery in the Netherlands, Suriname, and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on decolonial approaches to research and representation.

At KITLV, she investigates the colonial histories of taxation and customs in Suriname and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, focusing on their connections to slavery, economic extraction, mobility, and colonial governance. Alongside her archival research, her background as a professional dancer informs her interest in embodied histories and practice-based approaches to historical research. She explores the experiencing body as a site of historical knowledge, using embodied and creative practices as complementary ways of approaching and researching histories that are absent, fragmented, or silenced within colonial archives.
