Wigke is a PhD researcher in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CADS) at Leiden University and KITLV. Her research focuses on enriching refusal theory and methodology concerning ecological future-making involving more-than-human entities in Java, Indonesia. Additionally, her work and activism encompass political ecology, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Indigenous peoples, gender issues, and LGBTQ topics.
Prior to this position, Wigke worked as a researcher since 2009 and has held roles as a program manager with international donors and higher education institutions, including International IDEA. She has experience in networking, has served as a creative program director translating academic work for a general audience, worked as a voice-over talent, and was a journalist in 2008. In 2021, she won a grant from the Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Partnership (PAIR) in collaboration with the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) at Monash University to undertake a WASH program in a fishing village in coastal Semarang, Indonesia. At that time, she was also a lecturer in the Department of Politics and Government at Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia.
Wigke holds a Master of Arts in Environment and Sustainable Development from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) at Erasmus Rotterdam University in the Netherlands. She also studied at the Department of Politics at the University of Oslo, Norway, and earned her Bachelor's degree in politics from the Department of Government at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia.
