Novie Arren P. Barretto is an Assistant Professor and the department chairperson of Sociology, and Master of Arts in Philippine Studies Program at Mindanao State University – General Santos City.

Novie completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Development Studies at Ateneo de Davao University, building upon her Master of Arts in Sociology and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology degrees from Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology. Her academic pursuits have been further enriched by an Executive Course on Futures and Foresight Thinking from the Development Academy of the Philippines.

Her research interests encompass a diverse range of sociological areas, including the study of Indigenous Peoples, rural and urban community development, gender studies, and futures and foresight studies. Specifically, her dissertation was focused on the contemporary realities of the Sama Dilaut community, and she is a research project leader on Mapping Povertization of the Sama Dilaut community of General Santos City. Her commitment to the global and local sociological community is reflected in her active memberships in the International Sociological Association and the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS), where she has been a member since 2012.
