On July 31, TRACE postdoctoral researcher Wengki Ariando delivered an in-person general lecture at the Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis Muhammadiyah Wakatobi (ITBMW) in Southeast Sulawesi. Taking place during his summer 2026 fieldwork, the event builds upon his ongoing research and societal impact efforts in the region, which have been active since 2020.

His presentation, titled "Sacred Ecology and Blue Economy in the Context of Coastal and Small Island Communities in Indonesia," outlined critical areas for future policy and research development. Addressing an audience of students, lecturers, and local stakeholders, Wengki Ariando explored the complex socio-ecological dynamics of coastal communities and the pressing challenges of marine resource governance.

The visit also served as a strategic opportunity to build local partnerships. By opening the floor to dynamic discussions with regional stakeholders, the session reinforced the importance of integrating traditional ecological knowledge with sustainable blue economy initiatives.
